Oxford University Pro Vice-Chancellor Jane Shaw visits HENU

(September 11th, 2019) The delegation led by Prof. Jane Shaw, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Principal of Harris Manchester College along with Xi Chunying, Chairman of First Capital Group, and Sabrina Cheung, Chairman of KSI Education Group, paid a visit to Henan University, and had a meeting with Lu Keping, Party Secretary of Henan University and Song Chunpeng, President of Henan University.

 

Lu Keping warmly welcomed Jane Shaw’s visit to HENU, made a brief introduction to HENU and expressed the hope of reaching a consensus between the two universities. According to Lu Keping, Henan University attaches significant importance to internationalization of higher education and maintains various forms of cooperation and exchanges with many universities in the United Kingdom.

 

The collaboration between the two universities was also discussed by President Song Chunpeng and the guests who singled out internationalization of higher education as one of four driving forces for development of China’s higher education institutions as world-class universities and enhancing their disciplinary specializations (Double First-Class Initiative). He expressed the hope that the two universities would conduct in-depth exchanges, such as personnel training, teacher-student exchanges and scientific and research cooperation, and promote profound cooperation.

 

Jane Shaw expressed gratitude for the warm reception and introduced Oxford University and Harris Manchester College. It was her first visit to Henan University, according to her words, and she was full of expectations for cooperation between the two universities. Regular visits and exchanges of teachers and students of Henan University and Oxford University are expected to be further strengthened and deepened, along with the scope of scientific research cooperation to be expanded.

 

As a HENU alumnus, Xi Chunying was very glad to return to his alma mater, and expressed his willingness to make his personal contribution to strengthening partner relationships between the two universities and to the international development of his alma mater by providing financial support and assistance and promoting cooperation and exchanges between Henan University and Oxford University.

 

Development of productive cooperation between the two universities in areas of common interests and promotion of education development in China and the UK are among tasks of KSI Education Group, according to Sabrina Cheung.

 

At the meeting the representatives of both parties discussed the details of cooperation between the two universities and reached a preliminary consensus. After the meeting the guests visited the Museum of HENU Cultural Relics and the Exhibition held by the School of Fine Arts HENU.
