Guo Bailing graduated from the mathematics department of Fudan University in 1958.He served successively as assistant professor, assistant researcher, associate researcher and research director. He is now a researcher and doctoral supervisor of Beijing Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, and a judge of the mathematics panel of National Science Foundation. In November 2001, he was elected the academician of Mathematics and Physics Division of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He is also a double employed academician of Henan University. Academician Guo Bailing has devoted himself to the theoretical study of nonlinear development equations, and has carried out a systematic and in-depth study of some important equations in mechanics and physics. It includes the global solvability, uniqueness, regularity, asymptotic behavior and blasting phenomenon of the large initial value of nonlinear development equations such as Landau-Lifshitz equation and Benjamin-One equation, and gives a systematic and profound mathematical theory.
In infinite dimensional dynamical system, he successfully studied a number of important infinite dimensional dynamical systems, given the whole attractor, inertial manifold and the existence of approximate inertial manifolds and fine fractal dimension estimation theory, proposed a new way to prove strongly compact attractor, and used the discretization method for theoretical analysis and numerical calculation, showed the structure of the attractor and images. He has won a third prize of The National Natural Science Progress Award and several Science and Technology Progress Awards at the ministerial level. He has published 7 monographs and more than 200 papers, 74 of which have been included by SCI.
