Wang Zhanguo, born in Zhenping County, Henan province in December 1938, is a famous physicist of semiconductor materials. He graduated from The Physics Department of Nankai University in 1962 and went to work at the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was a visiting scholar at Lund University in Sweden from 1980 to 1983. In 1986, he was a researcher and Director of the Materials Department of the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Later, he was approved as a doctoral supervisor in 1990 and became the Deputy Director of Semiconductor Institute in 1990-1994. From 1991 to 2001, he served successively as the member, standing member and leader of the functional materials expert group of the National High-tech New Materials Expert Committee, and the leader of the new materials technology expert group in the field of new materials technology for soft research proposed in the Outline of the National S-863 Plan. Since 1990, he has been a member of six advisory committees, including the International Conference on Semiconductor and semi-insulating Materials, the 7th International Conference on Chemical Beam Epitaxy, and the International Conference on Defect Identification and Imaging Physics. In addition, he is the Director of the Semiconductor Materials Science Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is also the member of the academic committee of open laboratories in many countries and departments, such as Peking University and Tsinghua University. He is the consultant of the 8th Beijing Municipal People’s Government Expert Advisory Panel, the standing Director of China Society of Materials, and the senior member of China Society of Electronics. He also serves as the editorial board of Journal of Semiconductors, Journal of Synthetic Crystals, Material Guide, etc. He was elected as an academician of The Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995 and is now a member of the Standing Committee of the Department of Technology and chief scientist of the “Basic Issues of Information Functional Materials” of “973 Major Basic Research Program”. Professor Wang has won the first prize for natural Science of CAS, the first, second and third prizes for Scientific and Technological progress of CAS, the third prize for National Scientific and Technological Progress and many national Key Scientific and Technological Research Awards. He has published more than 100 papers in important foreign academic journals and been cited by others hundreds of times.
