Guangtian Zou

Zou Guangtian, male, born in July 1938, is an academician. He graduated from Jilin University in 1965 as a postgraduate majoring in Solid State Physics. Professor Zou is currently an international academic consultant, editor of Diamond Deposition Science and Technology magazine, editor of Superhard Material and editor of 6 domestic magazines. He is also the Director of the Chinese Physical Society, the Director of the High-pressure Physics Committee of the Chinese Physical Society, and the President of the Jilin Physics Society. He has been appointed four times in a row to the International Committee Member on the Physical Properties of The Interior of the Earth, and was elected the Executive Board member of the International Association for High-pressure Science and Technology in 1995 and the Vice President of the International Association for High-pressure Science and Technology in 1997. In 1985, Professor Zou was rated as the top talent of Jilin Province, and in 1990, he was awarded as the “Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions” by the Ministry of Human Resources. Currently, he is a member of the Evaluation Group of Physics and Astronomy Subject of The Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the supervisor of doctoral students in Condensed Matter Physics of Jilin University, and the Director of the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials of Jilin University.

Professor Zou was elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2001. He has been engaged in the research of High-pressure Physics for a long time, and found more than 100 new high-pressure phases and new pressure effects, revealing the nature and laws of some phase transitions. For example, piezoresistive ferroelectric phase transition and its mechanism in doped perovskite nanocrystals; soft mode and amorphous phase transition of natural superlattice materials of pseudoperovskite; physical mechanism of fullerc conversion to diamond at high temperature and pressure and so on. He is one of the early researchers of mantle material pressure in China and has made a series of important results in the field of high-pressure physics. Professor Zou organized and established China's first Ultra-high Pressure Laboratory and State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials for in-situ research of high pressure, developed some key experimental technologies in the generation, calibration and laser heating of hydrostatic pressure at one million atmospheres, and made a series of innovative achievements. He has published nearly 400 papers, 4 monographs, 3 invention patents, won 1 first prize, 1 second prize and 2 third prize of Science and technology progress of the Ministry of Education.
